IT HAS BEGAN

Wednesday 28th July

First day of shooting Victim the Movie... wow, okay so excitment at all time high, I think me Danny and Alex felt a huge sense of achievement, with the help of ALOT of people we are "making the dream reality" in for the day was 31 people thats quite insane. Actors in today was Ashley Chin and star in the making Letitia Wright (trust me this time next year you will all know) It was a perfect start to the shoot, 1 location, only 2 cast memebers a great way to bed everyone in. They was abit of rushing around for me, (producing isn't easy) especially with the budgets we are working with, it's case of roll up your sleaves and get dirty. A successful day but I had to leave before the end as I'm still doing sucker punch, due to it's sucess it extended it a week so will have to continue doing 18 hour days for another few more days.. I'm not complaining I love what I do, love the people who help me every day, can't wait to get my chance to shout you all out. JM

ROYAL COURT THEATRE

Tuesday 27th July

10.00am Royal Court Theatre, the lovely guys at the theatre have let me have a space for the day, I have to hand it to the theatre they genuinely are about the ARTS in generall, and was quick to offer the help when I told them about Victim and what we are trying to do. I meet Alex , Letitia and Asley at the theatre I wasn't actually meant to be rehearsing to 12.30 but helped them settle and spent the time going into the back story of Mannie (something I do with all my roles) whats the family.. whats there biggest fear, what makes them happy etc.. I'm pleased with how mannie's devloping and with dynamics of the group (Tyson, Jayson and Mannie) being so different we really should bring the film to life. I was in with AC and MM at 1.00 we did some great work although we could have done with a little more time, although I feel like we got some very important work done. Can't believe we start shooting tommorrow, wish us luck. JM

NEARLY THERE...

Monday 26th July

Last minute castings at Spotlight with Anna Kennedy oUR brilliant casting director, I genuinely think we must have seen 250 girls for the role of Davina. It's pure madness that we have not cast our lead actress two days before we start shooting but today it's make or break time. It was the last girl of the day Anna Knightingale, we had seen this wonderful actress before she was brilliant in her first auditioned moved us all and when we got her on camera, not only was shes talented but also stunningly beautiful, I'm just hoping I haven't got any scenes with her, you won't be looking at me.. Then it was back to the office for our final and most essential production meeting with all the crew. We went over the schedule for the next few weeks, if any one had any concerns they were to be voiced now, we have such a superb team and they come with a lot of experience, it look like everyone is happy and we are all confident that we will get through this tough and demanding shoot. Im sure we will come across problems but I will do my very best to make everyone enjoy this shoot as much as possible and we all know we are working towards a Special Script, with a special Team involved. JM

Location, location

Firday 23rd July

Today was what the industry call a "reece day" that means we go around and check all the locations of the movie making sure that the locations are practical, (we can get catering there, we have a green room to do costume and make up, the green room has electricity) etc and most importantly is it excatly right for what we need. We started off at 7.30 (I gota get used to this will be doing every day for 4 weeks) this will be our location for the first three days the house (which will be Tyson and Nyla's flat) Lucy the Art designer has done an amazing job, it looks amazing and Mouc and the boys have done an amazing job painting it up to look stunning, vibrant and hopefully scream out on screen. There was lots of places to visit highlights includes DD my fellow producers house what a cinematic location we have for the finalalie of the movie, I genuinely got excited walking around it. We also have the carribean Sea resturant in Dockland, it's beautiful and again ultra cinematic. Best bit was we got to eat there.. jerk chicken?? yep. JM

CAMERA TESTING

Thursday 22nd
A mad morning of last minute castings and running round making sure everything is in place was followed but some camera test with Alex and our brilliant D.O.P Peter Butler. The guys at Ice (suppliers) were fantastic and to say they are helping us out is an understatement. We have decided to shoot on the 7D with prime lenses (these lenses will make the film look as filmic as possible) and with the 7D it means we can shoot slow mo.. get in. It was a quick dart into to SOHO to meet our post productions boys Berwick street post, again another team that are literally coming up trumps for us and doing us a deal of life time. They will do a test grade on our footage to make sure we know we can get the end result we all want. They are very confidant in getting a fantastic end result. Me and Alex meet with ANOTHER actress as a potential Davina, and then it was off to do Sucker Punch performance number 40. JM

DIRECTOR'S BLOG #002

Well, the writers have done it again - astounding both me and Jason with an amazing new draft of the script. VICTIM just gets better and better. The story of how main character TYSON tries to break out of a cycle of debt and crime is tighter than ever - dramatic from start to finish, but at the same time rooted in the reality of London life. Well done Michael and Ashley, and co-writing team Michael and Adrian.

Meanwhile, casting is going strongly. Subject to contract, we are expecting Ashley Madekwe to star in the film as 'Tia', alongside some fantastic urban music artistes such as Giggs.

Casting is one of the great pleasures for a director - meeting talented actors, and hearing their interpretation of the script. The actors we have met so far have been brilliant, and I would like to thank them all for making the effort of seeing us either at the Oval, or trekking out to Upton Park. We are trying to cast a tight knit group of friends, whose delicate relationships are disturbed when an out-of-town cousin comes to stay ('Tia', to be played by Ashley Madekwe). With each actor comes a different vision, and the creative part of casting is trying to imagine how different combinations of actors will work. If we get the casting right, then this film will be a blinder.

A big thanks to the agencies which have helped us out so far: BWH; Gordon&French; Identity; and Roger Carey. Also to casting director Angela Grosvenor.

Keep watching this space to get the latest casting updates.
